Bulgária Ismét  (Bulgaria Again)

The raze and wreck of Turkish troops
rent what was our land.
Yet only flesh and bone
was taken from the Bulkan hand.

Prélude:

I was fallen on the stone
with mightier men than me;
all my brothers in my arms asleep.

They and I-
we would never wake again
not to see our brown eyed girls
or to sing our Runic tales.

Réalité (après le Öldöklés):

Sofia burned.

I saw there many times now
the widows of windy souls
that clap on the shudders
and drift in the fountain pools.

The wolf is lapping
where Bulkan girls washed their hands
and spoke a jezyk far from ears.

It is silent in our ruins
from Turkic swords upon our necks.
But the bleating varjú weeps
onto a silken carcass.

She was Irene.

Pré-mort (mémoires d'elle):

She could wake blossoms
and milken perfumes that licked
her swan-neck and heavy lips.

They kissed with exactness
the perfection of her poise
that turned to quiet gazes
into the hills above the pastures.

Always wishing for the wars to end.
When would I return
with battle hymns woven in my hair-

She was there in lace
and finest silks adorned
that never hid nor outshined
those Bulgarka eyes that sipped my soul.

Conséquence:

The sinking sun can not undo
the beauty of her song
what was before our tired deaths
which stretch out like cats
about the sunless streets.
It's hard to capture what should be captured in the pages and pages of some book. But with fewer words i tried to exemplify what effect should be given--and such is owed. This is a remnant of Bulgarian history.

So, there you have it. Another account.

*UPDATE* You all seemed so interested in the song i shared here. That's really great because there is a multitude of traditional and ancient music in the world being overlooked in this new pop era. The CD this song was taken from is called "Bulgarian Musical Folklore Vol. 1." Mine is the Bulgarian import, but i have found a site that sells it in english as well (well.. the booklet is in english). A little background: The vocalists sing in Bulgarian. You can hear tonal variations from different songs on the CD and that is the result of regional dialect in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian language was derived by Monks who based it on the Greek alphabet. That is where the resemblence comes from. This poem takes place after a Turkish invasion of Bulgaria. Here's a link to the CD: [link]
